If your home has recently been hit with severe weather, it is possible that your roof could have sustained some damage. Leaving a damaged roof unrepaired can be dangerous for you and your home – and can make it vulnerable to even more destruction. Here are three ways to safely and thoroughly evaluate your roof for possible damage after a storm.Roof Damage

Check Your Shingles

You can check on your shingles from the ground as well as being up on the roof. Look around the perimeter of your home for any shingles that may have been blown away due to strong winds. If it’s safe to get up on a ladder, evaluate your roof for any exposed roofing due to missing shingles, which will need to be replaced as soon as possible.

Search Around Your Attic

If you have an attic, this can be one of the easiest ways to figure out if your home has sustained water damage. Looking for water leak marks and investigating if there’s a musty, moldy smell can reveal if your roof has experienced water damage. Any leaking and funny smells will reveal themselves within a day or two after the storm has passed.

Look in Your Gutters

Another way to see if your roof has storm damage is to look in your gutters for remnants of your shingles. If you notice an abundant buildup of the granules from your shingles in your gutters, your roof has probably sustained damage that you can’t see. Contact a professional roofer immediately if you observe this.
