Things to watch for when re-roofing with asphalt shingles to meet the current 2010 Florida Building Codes:

If a roof requires more than 25% to be repaired, by law it must be completely replaced.

  1. When a roof is removed, the sub-roof decking must be nailed 6″ on center at laps, and 6″ on center in the field.
  2. All Drip Edge must be fastened a maximum of 12 inches on center.
  3. All valleys require either self-adhered underlayment or asphalt roll roofing coated in talc.
  4. Each asphalt shingle requires 6 nails per shingle.
